iEat with iPhone – Pinewood, No 246, Chipotle, The Oak Table, Joystick Gamebar [part 1]

October 9, 2012

Hey a bunch of phone photos. My iPhone 5 will have to suffice while I replace my camera which was stolen in what was surely a case of blogger espionage. We ventured out to Decatur for an evening of revelry and tried out The Pinewood Tippling Room, in the old Cakes & Ale space. They [...]

Menkoi Ramen House, Sun Ming [Columbia, SC]

July 20, 2012
Menkoi tonkotsu ramen

Eat It, Columbia. Menkoi Ramen House just opened in the Vista, on Gervais St near Assembly. I’m told it’s the owner of Inakaya, which I always found to be decent enough, though I did try tonkotsu ramen there three or four years ago and never desired to order it again. Menkoi is a true ramen-ya, [...]

Temporary Vegetarian

March 5, 2012

As carnivorous as I am, I do love a good veg-only meal. It doesn’t take a culinary genius to make a prime Porterhouse steak taste marvelous. Ms. Moore pointed me in the direction of Spice Junction, a restaurant [...]

True BBQ [Columbia, SC]

August 1, 2011

A friend (thanks Sam) recently told me about True BBQ in Triangle City, between West Columbia and downtown. I was looking for some hash to bring back to Atlanta and my favorite place is only open on Friday and Saturday. I’ve spent a good deal of time researching South Carolina BBQ hash and hadn’t even [...]

Cow Cow Burgers

May 31, 2011

A few weeks I was invited to a dinner at the home of Emile DeFelice, owner of Caw Caw Creek Farm, which I seem to talk about all the time. Emile’s product (pork) is amazing, but he’s also one of the few people in Columbia that I can call a friend. Being that I’ve worked [...]

Best/Worst Soup Improvisations

April 14, 2011

Duck fat matzo ball tom kha soup made in a chicken bone and coconut broth at Baan Sawan. AWESOME! Buffalo Chicken Soup. Basically somewhat thinned out buffalo salad dressing. NOT AWESOME! (Special runner up: The buffalo chicken omelet special I saw this morning at Atlanta Bread Company!)
