The time is almost upon us. The leaves have changed, the AC is off, and the trophies have been ordered. That’s right, the 2nd Annual Liberty Park Chili Society cook-off is in less than two weeks. The excitement is palpable and the confidence level of our contestants could be described as obnoxiously extremely confident. But they are going to have to go through the tough gauntlet of last year’s winners first!

If you are not on the evite/invitation list for the cook-off, and would like to attend this year’s event, please leave a comment on this post. I am not posting my email address because I get enough Viagra spam as it is.

The format will be mostly the same as last year, but please take care to read the rules below. One notable change is that by request the “Most Unique” chili category is now the “Best Unique” category. The other two categories remain “Best Overall” and “Spiciest”.

Also, this year the event will start a little bit later. Doors will open at 4PM. Once we finish off all the chili and beverages we can head out to the bar.

Lastly, due to the expected popularity of the event, we will be providing 200% more beer than last year. What we would like to ask in return is for some volunteers to bring everything else. Below is what is needed. I am also listing chili toppings to bring because last year everyone brought their own and I ended up with tons of stuff I had to throw out. If you can bring the items below, please email me and I will add you to the volunteer list.

Item Needed from Volunteers

  • Paper tasting bowls
  • Paper towels
  • Plastic tasting spoons
  • Folding tables (2, gameday stylee)
  • Extra chairs (as many as possible - maybe from my Liberty Park Neighbors?)
  • Cilantro, chopped onions, and sour cream
  • Shredded cheese
