Last night I had a fantastic grilled cheese and tomato soup dinner at Souper Jenny’s , which is closing today for the month of August, so if you want some soup that is the shiz I suggest you hurry….
But on the way home I stopped off at the JCT Kitchen bar for a drink.
I have been to the JCT (“Junction”) Kitchen a handful of times in the last year, and have always had great food and memorable experiences with friends. Their take on Southern fare is creative and the resulting dishes I’ve eaten have all been above average to great. As an appetizer the Truffle-Parmesan fries are where it’s at, but I’ve really enjoyed the Okra & Oysters and the “Angry” Mussels too. Entrees I’ve devoured include the “Chicken and Dumplings” (greasy, yummy chicken confit and ricotto dumplings similar to gnocchi), sweet corn & Georgia Goat Cheese Filled pasta (like Agnolotti, it’s one of the best values on an already well priced menu), the Rib Eye, and I’ve had a short rib special that was rockin’.
But I forget that besides being an outstanding eaterie, the patio bar upstairs is a fun and different (from my normal places) locale to have a drink, and even a snack. Also it’s only a couple of miles from my house so the convenience is clutch.
The picture below gives you an idea of the outdoor seating, which overlooks the active train tracks and the White Provision building which is currently being restored/developed. There actual bar is inside and has some small tables scattered about, and a long bar-style table, but I recommend the outside seating. Once I get a camera to replace the one I had stolen I will take more photos for future postings.
Thursday night is a good night to go because they have a few drinks/food specials and live music, usually a one-man acoustic kind of setup. Plus there are generally more people there on Thursday – earlier in the week in can be dead. They also have a snack menu until 10PM which has many of the appetizers on the regular menu, but they also add some other things like sliders and open faced grilled cheese sandwiches (which were on special for $1 each last night).
The bartenders have always been very friendly and even though it’s hot as hell in Atlanta right now, by about 9-10PM it’s decent enough to sit outside, and if you’re lucky, you’ll catch a breeze. Be sure to check it out some time.
